I stumbled across a very cool Australian new wave band, The Sports, over at the excellent I Supply the Country With Butter blog.
The Sports, based in Melbourne, were together from 1977 to 1981, and over that time recorded a good amount of early Elvis Costello-styled new wave-infused pub rock, scoring minor hits with songs such as Boys! (What Did the Detective Say?), When You Walk in the Room, How Come and Who Listens to the Radio.
1982's All Sports compiles the band's greatest moments over 16 songs. There's even a great cover of Wedding Ring, a classic Easybeats tune. Thanks to I Supply the Country With Butter for making this available. Head on over to check it out!

The sports were a fantastic band, I have this on vinyl. I just found your blog and its fantastic, I'm gonna link you on my blog, which covers much the same ground as yours except its Australian only.
Find me at -

and I'm sure you'll find plenty of stuff you'll like.
By the way I see you have some of the fantastic Flaming hands singles up, they were my rips originally for overheres fantastic and sadly missed blog.
Love a link if you can
ciao bob
Hey Bob, thanks very much. Your blog is great, too. I will link. There was so much great stuff to come out of Australia during the new wave era.
I do remember your rips from overhere's blog. Thanks to you I got some tracks by the Flaming Hands I hadn't heard! The ones I currently have up I did from my own copies of the singles. If you know where I can get a hard copy of the "Wake Up Screaming" single, please let me know! I've been searching for that one.
I'd be surprised if you could find a copy anywhere of wake up screaming, maybe
I can scan the front and back cover if you like and you can download it still at my blog. How did you get hold of flaming hands records in Chicago?
Theres a phantom records comp on my blog which has "Seek and find" a song I think was only ever released on this record. Find it here

And I've got a Passengers Lp which was Jeff Sullivan's band before the flaming hands, their also on the compilation.
I must get round to posting that Passengers Lp
ciao bob
i have your mp3s of the "wake up screaming" single, (thanks for making them available!) but it would be cool to add a hard copy to my collection. i found "the edge," "it's just that i miss you" and "cast my love" singles on eBay, and was outbid on "i belong to nobody" a few weeks ago, so i guess it's possible for "wake up screaming" to show up there.
i grabbed the comp with "seek and find." thanks!
i would LOVE to hear that passengers LP.
I'll get onto the passaengers Lp this week,
its amazing what you can find on ebay
ciao bob
If you want to check out some of the Sports' early recordings ie before they signed a contract or even released their own self-funded EP, head here
